Jessica Fisher (She/They) is a Phoenix-Based artist from New Jersey. She majored in Playwriting and Musical Theatre at NYU Tisch and minored in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies. If you’re a Tik Tok fan, you may have seen a few of her videos floating around your For You Page. She stumbled upon Dr. Gerbasi’s work when doing research for her minor in college, and had the privilege of interviewing her for Best Paper I Ever Wrote, a podcast about essays of all kinds.

It’s time to throw away all of those cookie-cutter date questions (What’s your sign, what are your hobbies, what’s your favorite color etc.
I really have not found anywhere I could say this (and I don’t exactly know how I could begin to express what I have to say) but I have been doing a research paper for my college introductory English class and the topic I chose was the furry fandom.
I, being a furry myself, have learned oh so very much about the fandom itself and its interesting origins. It’s been fun researching all of this and seeing how the scientific study of the fandom has taken off slightly more than a decade ago. I just wanted to thank you for your hard work and dedication on the subject!
I also wanted to ask a question: Say one was interested in becoming an academic researcher of the fandom, what would be some realistic expectations of such a thought?
I have some ideas of what you could research within the fandom but I don’t know what one would need to go about doing so (especially since it would likely involve talking about a minority within a minority).
